These policies and procedures are supplemental to the current Parent Handbook of Our Savior Lutheran Church and School. They are necessary to incorporate the Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program and its attendance requirements into our existing organizational structure. Please review these policies and procedures carefully, as they outline important expectations for participation in the VPK program.
Students who are new to our school program may be required to complete a prekindergarten screening prior to enrollment in order to ensure appropriate placement and readiness.
If your child will be absent, you must notify the school office. The VPK program consists of 540 instructional hours each year. Children may not be absent for more than ten (10) days per semester.
If these attendance requirements cannot be met, or if your child exceeds the permitted number of absences, they will be withdrawn from the VPK program at our site. You may have the option to remain in our non-VPK program by paying the current tuition rate.
For VPK-only students, the program ends at 11 :30 AM. If your child is picked up after this time, you will be charged the current tuition rate. Late pick-up may not occur more than two (2) times per month. Exceeding this limit will result in being charged the Enrichment tuition rate for the remainder of the month.
The Enrichment program is available for families who would like their children to participate in additional activities such as computers, music, library, P.E., foreign language, art, enhanced science lessons, and extended review of morning topics.
Participation in the VPK program requires a parent/ guardian to sign a monthly attendance roster to verify their child's attendance. You will have three (3) days from the last day of the month to sign. Failure to sign within this period will result in suspension from the VPK program until the requirement is met.
VPK is a free program funded by the State of Florida. Students enrolled in the VPK portion of the day are not required to pay for activities or provide school supplies. Activities that incur a cost will be scheduled during the Enrichment portion of the program when possible. Students attending Enrichment are required to fulfill the Our Savior Lutheran Church and School supply list.
The VPK program operates Monday through Friday, 8:15 AM - 11:30 AM, except on days noted in the school calendar.
In addition to the attendance requirements listed above, removal from the VPK or Enrichment program may occur at the discretion of the Director, Principal, or School Board if circumstances warrant.
